The discovery of Kirlian photography caused great excitement when it reached the West in the 1970s. Some people claimed that these pictures show the aura or life force present in all living things - in this instance a person's fingertip. Kirlian photography has ever been touted as a diagnostic medical tool. However, scientists have shown that changes in a person's aura are entirely attributable to the amount of perspiration on the subject's skin.
