Blood Vessels in the Head
Just Out Of Reach
The complex network of arteries that carry and distribute oxygenated blood to the human brain is revealed in this false-colour arteriogram. Arteriography is commonly used in medicine to detect problems such as blockages and constrictions caused by fatty build-ups on the inside wall of the arteries, or ruptures caused by high blood pressure. Any interruption to the brain’s blood supply, or leakage of blood within the brain, can cause a stroke, which may lead to paralysis or death.
