Morehouse Comet
Into The Heavens
The Morehouse Comet was first observed and recorded in 1908. It made its closest approach to the Sun on Christmas Day in 1908, and was named after the US astronomer Daniel Walter Morehouse, who discovered it. Astronomers began to capture comets on film successfully from the start of the 1880s, when new photographic techniques enabled them to record these faint objects. Of all the comets observed during the early days of comet photography, the Morehouse Comet was the most frequently photographed and the one that yielded most spectacular pictures. This photograph was taken by the German astronomer Maximillian Wolf on 16 November 1908.
