North Celestial Pole
And Beyond
This photograph shows the apparent path traced by stars in the night sky as the Earth rotates beneath them. It was taken by pointing the camera at the night sky, resting on a firm support, with the shutter open for several hours. The celestial pole - the point about which the sky appears to turn due to the rotation of the Earth - lies at the center. Here, we are looking out to the stars along the Earth's axis of rotation.
